History
In 1988 Dixie Cooney left her hometown of Pigeon Hollow, West Virginia, alongside her brother Will in search of their uncle Palmer Cortlandt, following their mother's death.
While Will was in search of money, Dixie was in search of family, and rather than scheming with her brother, took a lifechanging job for Palmer's business and personal rival Adam Chandler. Dixie developed a crush on Adam, sympathetic towards him after he and his wife Brooke English, were unable to conceive a child.
Playing on her sympathy and feelings for him, Adam seduced Dixie and his wish of having an heir was granted, after she agreed to let him and Brooke raise her son.
Brooke however, wanting to know the paternity of the child, hired P.I and friend Tad Martin to investigate Dixie. But little did Tad know their fated March encounter would result in him 'forgetting every woman he'd ever met'.
Tad was instantly attracted to Dixie, and having quickly befriended her over their shared love of chicken fingers, did everything in his power to protect the too trusting Southern belle and her first born from Adam's schemes, even breaking her out of a mental hospital Adam had committed her to in an effort to remove her from his son's life.
Dixie and Tad regained custody of Junior, and were soon married after an infamous chicken suit proposal, but their promise of "together forever" proved easier said then done.
Dixie had to battle many obstacles throughout her relationship to Tad, including interference from her family and unwelcome suitors. There was also many women vying for Tad "The Cad's" affections. This along with illnesses, presumed deaths, and lots of pride and stubbornness, led to the couple remarrying three times.
But despite her and Tad's ups and downs, Dixie made every effort to be a good mother to her boys, her "sunshine" J.R, and her stepson Tad and Brooke's boy Jamie.
While there were rough patches between Dixie and J.R in the times when Tad and Dixie's marriage was on the rocks, they always maintained a close knit bond.
However, since her and Tad's first marriage, Dixie's dream had been to have a child with the love of her life. But this proved to be a dificult task because of her one kidney and heart condition, and as predicted by doctors Dixie miscarried her and Tad's first child, a girl to be called Bess,
Dixie became pregnant again in the process of her final divorce from Tad, and was determined to carry the child to term. But shortly after Tad learned about his unborn daughter Kate, on his flight to meet Dixie in Switzerland he was told she died in a car crash.
In reality Dixie was brought to a clinic after the accident, where her physician Greg Madden, convinced her she was on her deathbed, and that her daughter would be better cared for by an adoptive family than a grief stricken ex.
Dixie then made the impossible decision to put Kate up for adoption, but was horrified as she recovered as to what she'd been convinced to do. Not allowing herself to return to her family without the missing part of it, Dixie traveled the world for four years searching for Kate, while her family was under the impression she was dead.
When Madden made a stop in Pine Valley, Dixie returned to her hometown unbeknownst to her loved ones. And forged a bond with Zach Slater, while her's and her ex lover David Hayward's was tested, after he sprung her alive state on J.R without warning.
Unable to confide in anyone her reasons for staying away, Dixie was ostracized until the truth came out regarding Madden knowing Kate's whereabouts. While many had an ax to grind with the doctor, Dixie and Zach were arrested for his live burial, and Tad took it upon himself to berate his ex wife in public every chance he got. However it was a strategy, allowing him to perjure himself in court and get Dixie acquitted, for the murder he confessed to her he comitted.
From that point on, the couple agreed to put the past aside and find their daughter together. David, angered at Dixie rejecting him, made it appear he'd discovered a girl called Emma who was actually Kate.
When a DNA test proved otherwise, Tad and Dixie were devastated and both had to encourage one another to hold onto hope they'd be reunited with their daughter. But later, when Dixie learned of the opportunity to give Tad another little girl, by revealing the true paternity of Krystal Carey's unborn child, she felt obligated to tell the truth.
However when Tad regained confidence that Kate would be found, around the time a young girl named Kathy Mershon arrived in Pine Valley, Dixie kept quiet about Krystal's secret.
Also at this time, a serial killer came to Pine Valley for the holidays, and while his eyes were on the women of Fusion, mainly Babe Carey, Dixie was the unintended victim of poisoned peanut butter and banana pancakes meant for Babe, and was pronounced dead at PVH in February of 2007.
Dixie later made a ghostly appearance in PV in May of 2008 to persuade Adam to reveal Kate's identity to Tad, something that required Tad nearly joining his beloved in the ultimate paradise to happen. Then after a journey to the home of their wishing star, Dixie and Tad shared a kiss before she vanished leaving him to raise their daughter. Only to meet once more briefly in a hospital chapel, after their son's battle with cancer came to an end, where Dixie assured Tad she would see him again, in the stars.

"Tad...honey can ya hear me?"
Dixie asked nervously, snapping her fingers trying to snap him out of his daze he'd been in since he laid eyes on her.
It seemed like hours had passed since she walked into the detective office and to her delight spotted him. His hair had gone gray all the way through and he looked slimmer but sadder, clearly in desperate need of a little together forever magic.
Now though it seemed it would take a miracle for him to even speak.
The stunned expression on his handsome face hadn't gone away yet and it had it her worried and frankly, aggravated.
After all this wasn't the first time one of them had come back from the grave, she'd figure he'd be used to the concept by now. Plus he better than anyone, had to have known a dish of flipping peanut butter pancakes were nowhere near enough to keep her stubborn self out of commission forever. Thanks partly to Palmer's quick thinking, God rest his soul, and the private clinic he'd stashed her in.
"Alright Thaddeus, what have I gotta do to convince you I'm here for good..."
She muttered to herself, until an idea came to her and a mischievous gleam filled her eyes.
"Sheesh, should've thought've this the second I laid eyes on ya, you jerk."
Giggling she walked up to the chair he was seated in, and with a sweet smile reserved for only him to see, with confidence climbed onto his lap.
Bringing his hand to her fully functional fast beating heart, she finally saw some belief sink into his baby blues.
"See Tad..it's me honey. I'm here...I'm home."
Dixie whispered, teary eyed, and inching closer gently pulled him into a slow, deep kiss that if she had her way, wouldn't ever end.
